The History of Miss Donna's School of Dance

The history of Miss Donna's goes far beyond Miss Donna herself, as her grandmother was a dancer on Vaudeville and her mother was a dancing teacher in Boston, Massachusetts. Miss Donna opened her first studio with 100 students in September of 1956, while she was a student at Queens College, majoring in primary education and psychology.

Miss Donna's first studio was located on Central Avenue.  After seven years she moved to Shamrock Drive. When that facility proved to be too small, Miss Donna moved to Rosehaven Drive then to East Independence Boulevard in the Amity Gardens Shopping Center.  Independence Boulevard was in a five year plan of reconstruction which made it impossible to continue at that location, therefore she moved to the present location in the Sardis Crossing Shopping Center. The newest location is a state of the art facility with 10,000 square feet of dance studio.

Today, Miss Donna's School of Dance includes 20 dance instructors and 10 teacher assistants with over 250 years combined of dance education experience. She has four studios: Harrisburg, Indian Trail, Mountain Island and Sardis.

Donna Mitzel, the founder and owner of Miss Donna's School of Dance, has great love and admiration for each and every child and staff member. The history of Miss Donna's will never die but will live on in the hearts of the thousands of children who have walked through these doors.
